My heavy textured artwork is inspired by my grandfather,

My grandfather went blind when I was a young girl, I wanted to make art so that he could feel what I was creating. This need to create heavily textured art has always been with me.

I could find no product on the market that I was pleased with, so I set out to perfect my own medium to create paintings with the textured reliefs that I envisioned. I have been using this self-created medium in my art for over 20 years. 

The process of creating textured paintings begins by working with photos and a sketchbook. Once I finalize the design for the painting, I then start with a pre-made art board, layering the textured medium using an artist's trowel. This can be many layers to get the desired background texture I envision.

The detail layers are done by hand sculpting each element to the background layers. After completing the texture part of the artwork, I then use oil glazes and start the overlay process. There are many layers of oils and varnishes to achieve depth in each painting. After the layering process, it is then finished with small details of oil paints to achieve the final painting.
